It's a lot cleaner then it has been in the past. The on site managers are good people very nice. The other residents look out for each other. The homeless congregate in front of the building nextdoor but they stay off the property for the most part.
Management is a no nonsense team. I hope that upgrade funds soon make their way here. The building has a rich history.
We were here from December 2023 to May 2024 The Good: Affordable weekly rates (compared to the other motels in town), no bedbugs, no mice, location makes it easy to get around, especially if you don't have a car, 3/4 size fridge, no issues with having your mail or packages sent there, management attentive to maintenance issues, excellent hot water (never ran out even when I took an extra long shower to alleviate back pain), ample parking, 2 dogs and 2 cats allowed w no extra deposit and decent WiFi. When we arrived the assistant managers were awful...drug addicts that stole from rooms but within 2 weeks of our stay they were fired and the new assistants are AWESOME. John and Kourtney are good people and they are really one of the best parts of staying there! The bad: Some cockroach issues (they will deal with it immediately or you can use diatomaceous earth to get rid of them yourself) usually due to a guest who was dirty, 12 week limit unless you are lucky enough to get into one of the monthly rooms, no ground floor units & no elevator so you have to do stairs, lots of downtown street people who come to collect butts from everyone's ashtray and go through the garbage, only 4 2 bedroom units (we were super lucky to get one), management comes in whenever they want with zero notice to do inspections (the motel is for sale so they are sprucing it up) and kick people out for having too much stuff, having dirty rooms (isn't that what housekeeping is for??) or smelling smoke (also drug traffic and smoking fentanyl will get you booted ASAP so don't try it here) and lots of arbitrary rules like no command hooks, no bikes, and no cooking devices except the provided microwave. The details: *Must have ID *Cannot exceed occupancy limits (no having 4 people in a 1 bedroom) *No guests after 9 (or 10 I can't remember) & they have lots of cameras so they know if you have guests *Cash only *For a two bedroom w 3 people we paid $376/wk and had a$100 deposit. After 5 weeks you don't pay tax so it went down to $350/wk and we paid daily a couple times that was $75 or $69 after 5 weeks. Less than most places in town. *420 friendly if you keep it outside the room *No smoking rooms but every room has an ashtray on the "porch" *No guest laundry *Any damage (like staining a towel) results in a charge coming out of deposit immediately and you must bring the deposit current to stay there. *Management is great. I had a personal thing with the head manager but he is kind and will do anything to accommodate you if he is able. Assistant manager are the best! Honestly it's one of the best economy options (a far cry from what it was 10 years ago) and we wouldn't have left but we exceeded the 12 week limit but 2 months. I met some lifelong friends there as well. I've read the negative reviews that are recent and they are all from people who were kicked out for illegal activity or having a dog bite someone. Don't believe those reviews. It's retaliatory nonsense.
The new cleaners are awesome and the manger is awesome! They are friendly and extremely helpful. They all make sure your stay is clean and friendly!!! Definitely would recommend the Downtowner if you need a temporary stay for housing or just needing a room for a night I met some pretty awesome people that became like family to me here!!!
My little family has fallen on hard times and this is the 3rd motel we have stayed at and are currently staying at. I wish I would have come here from the very beginning! The staff from the other motels could take a lesson or two from the staff here! They were super welcoming our first day. I was in the parking lot with my dog and it was super hot out and we had walked a long ways to get here and one of managers said I could use the hose to get my dog some water while I was waiting to check-in. They have great rules in place to keep you safe. Super accommodating. They are even super sweet to my dog who can be a little butthead sometimes. I can't thank them enough for being so awesome and making us feel welcomed. They also keep things quiet around here at night which is a plus! I hope to get into housing soon but I definitely want to try and stay here in the meantime. The room is super small but for the price it's fair and the staff are really what make this place great.
The new manager is awesome and goes out of his way, works long hours to make sure everyone has what they need, he also runs out the druggies and the troublemakers. The head of housekeeping does a fantastic job, keeps rooms clean, bedding clean and is always happy to give you what you need. On a negative note, the assistant manager seems kinda shady, seems to be forgetful about bringing to or towels/ bedding...Great community, not as bad as it used to be.
